Welcome to Issaquah
A peaceful Seattle suburb
The Native American name Issaquah was anglicized into its English form; it originally referred to a little stream, a snake, or the sound of birds. The former name for the region, Squak Valley, is derived from the same Native American word.
On April 29th, 1892, the city was formally established. The city's look and economic emphasis have shifted significantly from its early days as a modest mining town. To better serve the mining sector, Issaquah was established. In the late 1890s, when the mining resources dwindled, other businesses saw that Issaquah could sustain a prosperous timber industry.
With their extensive community involvement and ability to recruit new inhabitants, companies like Boeing and Microsoft have profoundly impacted Issaquah's rich history, thriving culture, and richly varied population.
